Bengal Group owns RTV and RTV Music. The Group started its journey in 1969 by establishing Bengal Plastics Ltd. Over the years, the Group diversified its investment into electronic media, real estate, food, chemical, paper, garments, and renewable energy.

In 2013, the Group took two of its companies to public. Next year, Bengal Windsor Thermoplastics Ltd, producer of the hanger and other garment accessories, was listed on both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges.

In February 2020, Bangladesh Bank gave final approval to Bengal Group for Bengal Commercial Bank.

Bengal Group has shares in various enterprises outside the conglomerate. Some of those enterprises are Mercantile Bank Ltd., National Life Insurance Co. Ltd., National Finance Ltd., Desh General Insurance Co. Ltd., United Hospital Limited., Peoples University.

Ownership and Key Individuals

Awami League lawmaker Morshed Alam is the founding chairman of Bengal Group. Morshed Alam???s younger brother Md. Jashim Uddin is the vice Chairman of the Group. Morshed Alam???s wife Bilkis Nahar is also a director of the Group. The other three members of the board of directors of Bengal Group are Firoz Alam, Shamsul Alam and Saiful Alam. They are all related to the family of Morshed Alam.

Legal cases

In December 2019, the Department of Environment (DoE) fined Morshed Alam Complex, owned by Bengal Group Chairman Morshed Alam, Tk 5 lakh for not abiding by the condition of its environmental clearance certificate.
